New Enermax Eco 80+ Power Supply Series

I was in Taiwan yesterday for a brief stopover, and with Enermax being close to the airport I took the opportunity to have a visit their HQ in Taoyuan. The best place to find new products is the R&D department. I actually found the engineers testing a new series Enermax will be releasing very soon - it's not for all markets, but the U.S. might see it. It’s called the Eco 80+ series, and for example it won't be available in Germany since the managers for the German market decided the Modu82+ and Pro82+ are still selling too well.
This series has a new kind of fan installed that Enermax also sells separately in retail channels. As you can see in the pictures, the fan is red and is named Magma. The fans are supposed to be very quiet due to their specially designed blades. The series will start at 350W, which is a good step in the right direction. The next higher wattage is the Pro82+ at 385W. There will be also 400W, 500W, and 620W models, which are the typical wattages that cover most of the entry to midrange field. As far as we could see, all of the capacitors are made by Nippon Chemi-Con, a high-end Japanese manufacturer. We couldn’t get any word on retail prices and availability yet, but Enermax will be introducing this series pretty soon.

How about a Sata cable that includes one molex? Useful for powering extra fans. Or even has the necessary 3 pin power connectors on it? Perhaps just a smaller length cable with a single molex on it to start our fan daisy chain?What's with Sata connector spacing? Move the 1st/top connector higher for traditional top mounted PSUs and 5 1/4" bay optical drives. Move the 2nd down to the third with maybe 1-2" of spacing between connectors for multiple drive installs in a hdd cage. At least one cable should come like this (perfect for a 1 optical, 1/2 hdd setup).

The problem is that once you start tweaking things like that, you essentially need a set of cables for each case. What I would like to see (at least from PSUs with modular cabling) is a kit to build your own cables - have the end that plugs into the PSU complete with plugs and bare wires, and allow users to tap on connectors wherever they like. SATA connectors for this already exist, and I'd guess Molex could be made if they don't already exist.bobbozzo - Saturday, January 24, 2009 - link

says they'll do custom connectors for any customer, for an extra charge.

I'm in Taiwan this week, working in Hsinchu (TSMC). I went shopping for some computer parts at a local electronics bazaar near my hotel, but I was surprised that, for the most part, prices are higher than what I could get in the U.S. We have it pretty good in the States...Oh yeah, and the Fab industry here in Taiwan wants me to send a message back to the U.S. - please spend money and buy more electronics!

People make the mistake to think it's cheaper there. But the size of the market makes the price and there is no real market in Taiwan or China which is why everything is far more expensive. Just a friendly reminder to request that you test the Tuniq Potency 550PS that Mr. Fink mentioned in the comments section of the $1000-2000 builders guide. I ended up purchasing this at a fantastic price of $40 (after $40 rebate), and just did the build yesterday. Quality seems VERY good for such an inexpensive PSU, now I want to know how good it actually is.Thanks

Already bought a Modu82+. (Europe)The fan itself looks different. Apart from this Eco model not begin modular, the casing looks similar with the trimmed edge on the fan opening.
I wonder if the Magma fan is much quieter than the ones on the Modu82+. Also how it stacks up against any of the Noctua in price/performance.
